NiJee Pierre McWillis, a Charles County correctional officer who was suspended in March pending his trial for the alleged misconduct, was indicted earlier this year on charges for misconduct in office and unauthorized access to computers and related material.
He had also been charged with copy/possession of a database, though that will be dismissed by the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office, the sheriff noted.
It is alleged that McWillis violated the privacy of an arrestee’s cell phone during the booking process, leading to his suspension in March.
“I want to continue to keep our community up to date on this investigation and reassure them that we investigated these allegations to the fullest extent,” Charles County Sheriff Troy Berry said. “This correctional officer’s actions are contrary to the values and the professionalism of the agency.”
McWillis is scheduled to be sentenced later this month, according to the sheriff’s office.
